High Commission history

In 1989, the United Kingdom established a British Liaison Office in Windhoek. Soon after Namibia gained its independence in March 1990, the United Kingdom established the British High Commission at 116 Robert Mugabe Avenue, where it remains to this day.

The first British High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia was Mr (now Sir) Francis Neville Richards. Since he arrived in June 1990, there have been five British High Commissioners. The current British High Commissioner is Mr Mark Bensberg.
